A powerful typhoon has killed eight people in southern China after claiming 77 lives in the Philippines.
China’s official Xinhua News Agency said five people died and 99 were injured when Typhoon Rammasun hit Hainan island, off the country’s southern coast.
Three later died in the Guangxi region as the storm ploughed into the mainland on its way north to Vietnam.
Xinhua reported that wind speeds reached 130mph (216kph).
Chinese authorities say Rammasun is the biggest typhoon to hit southern China in 41 years, after wreaking havoc in the Philippines earlier in the week.
Authorities in southern China ordered the highest level of disaster alert and suspended hundreds of buses, trains and flights across the region.
