Teen-driven car kills mother and daughter

A car driven by a 15-year-old schoolboy hit a woman and her daughter crossing a road in Sri Lanka, killing both of them, the ‘Mawbima’ has reported. The road accident happened on the night of Saturday January 16. The 47-year-old mother and her 10-year-old daughter were thrown forward by 20 metres and 40 metres respectively, police informed the Colombo chief magistrate’s court.

The suspect boy’s mother, who was arrested on charges of abetting him to drive the car, was remanded along with the boy until January 28. Police urged the court to refuse bail for both the suspect woman and her son to preserve public peace as people living nearby were tense.

The court ordered the suspects be produced on January 28 for an identification parade and to keep the boy under the custody of an orphanage till such time.
