Peter Siebold, the pilot who who survived the Virgin Galactic disaster has said it was a miracle that he escaped with his life. Mr Siebold suffered serious injuries including a shattered shoulder in the accident, which killed his friend and co-pilot, Mike Alsbury.
Somehow Mr Siebold managed to parachute to safety as his craft, SpaceShip Two disintegrated 50,000 feet above the Mojave desert.
‘I must have lost consciousness at first,” said Mr Siebold, a married father of two.
“I can’t remember anything about what happened but I must have come to during the fall.
“I remember waving to the chase plane and giving them the thumbs-up to tell them I was OK. I know it’s a miracle I survived.’’
