Suicide bombers kill 65 Christians in Pakistan

Suicide bombers have killed at least 65 people and injured more than 300 more in an attack aimed at Christians in a park in Pakistan.

The blast happened in the parking area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, Lahore, a few metres away from children’s swings, and most of the victims are believed to be women and children.

Authorities have so far confirmed the deaths of 65 people at the park, where Christians had been celebrating Easter, but they expect the death toll to rise. Senior police official Haider Ashraf said the blast appeared to be a suicide attack, adding that ball bearings were found at the crowded park.

No terrorist groups have yet claimed responsibility for the blast, which struck at the heart of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s political base of Punjab.
