Sri Lankan president Sirisena revamps his security ahead of election

Maithripala Sirisena has disbanded a part of the Presidential Security Division, and replaced the elite Sri Lankan unit with a highly-trained team of commandos, it was reported. Police Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the unit will be completely replaced within next two weeks.

President Sirisena had continued with the same Presidential Security Division (PSD) which protected former President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his 10-year term, including when the country was at war with separatist rebels of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

ASP Gunasekara said the (STF) would now be responsible for President Maithripala Sirisena’s security. Cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne on Thursday claimed that three PSD personnel were linked to the murder of national rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.
