Several suspects arrested in Matara for alleged drug possession

Four suspects were arrested in the Matara town, as they were allegedly transporting a stock of Hashish in a jeep, reported.

Police said that 183 grammes and 62 milligrammes of Hashish were allegedly found in the possession of the suspects. Initial Investigations revealed that the suspects were transporting the drug from Hikkaduwa to Arugam Bay to be consumed at a festival there.

The suspects who were arrested on Thursday evening, will be produced in Court on Friday. Meanwhile, a woman in possession of a stock of Heroin, was arrested in 427-watte, an area that falls under the Angulana Police jurisdiction. Police arrested the woman based on a tip off they had received. The suspect is a 48-year-old resident of Marina Road, Angulana.

Two grammes and 200 miligrammes of Heroin were taken into police custody. The suspect is to be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court on Friday. In another case, an individual transporting Heroin was arrested at Magazine Road, Borella. The suspect, a 38-year-old resident of Padukka, was arrested by the Crimes Division, based on a tip off it had received.

A stock of Heroin weighing 305 grammes and 910 miligrammess was taken into police custody.
