Seven killed, 44 injured as bus falls into gorge in India

DHARMAPURI: At least seven people were killed and 44 others were injured when a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus rolled 100 feet down a hillside to a gorge near Hogenakkal in Dharmapuri district on Tuesday.

The accident happened at the third hairpin bend on the Dharmapuri-Hogenakkal road at around 1.20pm, police sources said. The bus was going to Hogenakkal from Dharmapuri.

“As of now, we have recovered seven bodies from the gorge. The death toll may increase,” said the Hogenakkal police.

The injured were being rushed to government hospital in Dharmapuri.

Dharmapuri district collector K Vivekanandan, superintendent of J Loganathan and other officials rushed to the spot.
