Sania Mirza, Martina Hingis clinch third Grand Slam with 36th consecutive win

Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis on Friday created history at the Rod Laver Arena, as they not only won a third consecutive Grand Slam together but also their 36th match on the trot.

The Indo-Swiss pair beat Andrea Hlavackova, Lucie Hradecka 7-6, 6-3 in the final to win the year’s first major. While they struggled to come up tops in the first set, Hingis and Mirza were back to their brutal best in the second.

Sania and Martina are now just eight matches away from equalling the all-time record of 44 set by Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova in 1990.
