Philippines to evacuate workers from parts of Iraq

MANILA: The Philippines says it will evacuate its nationals from all areas of Iraq except the northern region due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation there.

Foreign affairs spokesman Charles Jose said on Thursday that 154 Filipinos in the Baghdad area are expected to be pulled out. The rest of the 900 Filipino workers in Iraq are located in Kurdistan, which remains relatively calm and stable and will not be asked to leave.

Millions of Filipinos work overseas, sending home billions of dollars.
