The American Airlines flight AA717 from Munich to Philadelphia declared a 7700 general emergency above Scotland. American Airlines confirmed the cause of the emergency was a medical emergency on board.
The passenger is understood to have suffered a seizure. The plane was diverted to Manchester Airport and has since landed.
The condition of the passenger is unknown. A spokesman for American Airlines said: “American Airlines flight 717, an Airbus A330-200 from Munich Airport (MUC) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), is diverting to Manchester, UK (MAN) due to an ill passenger.
“The aircraft is expected to land at 1345 local time.”
