Maithripala Sirisena to make a special statement today

Colombo: President Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to make a special statement this afternoon (14), the President’s Media Division (PMD) said upon query by Lankapuvath National News Agency.

Sources close to President Maithripala Sirisena told The New Indian Express that because of the inclusion of his rival, Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) list, the President will be “neutral” in the elections and not come out openly in support of the UPFA, though he is its Chairman.
