NTT Docomo tweeted this picture of a “deformed” pinky warning users they could be damaging their fingers by gripping their smartphones too tightly. The Japanese mobile network said that resting a heavy phone’s weight on your little finger could cause temporary pain or indentation.
It said: “Please take the time to hold your phone differently or take a break so that it is not too much of a burden on a particular finger.”
It is thought that the pain develops after repeated use of the pinky but it is not known how many phone owners have been affected. The health alert comes after similar warnings of injuries such as ‘text claw’ and ‘BlackBerry thumb’ developing after regular smartphone use.
