Gunman opens fire at German nightclub

A machine-gun wielding man burst into a German nightclub and opened fire overnight, killing one and seriously wounding three more.

The 34-year-old attacker was gunned down by police in a shoot-out after trying to flee the Grey nightclub in Konstanz, on the Swiss border.

He later died in hospital while a policeman was also wounded following the shooting at 4.30am.

German newspaper Bild reports that he fired off rounds using an automatic weapon. A police spokesman described how revellers were forced to flee the club or fling themselves under tables to avoid the hail of gunfire.
