Garbine Muguruza wins Wimbledon title

The 23 year year-old of Basque and Venezuelan heritage stopped the remarkable run of 37 year-old Venus Williams by winning the first women’s final to take place under the roof 7-5 6-0 in an hour and seventeen minutes.

And so last year’s French Open champion – and the Wimbledon runner-up from two years ago – proved that she is likely to be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

  • Garbine Muguruza overcame Venus Williams 7-5 in the first set before taking the second 6-0 on Saturday
  • Muguruza won the first women’s final to take place under the roof in just an hour and seventeen minutes
  • The Spaniard has claimed her second Grand Slam title after she won the French Open back in 2016
