Euro 2016 Qualification: Macedonia 0-1 Spain

A goal in the eighth minute from the Manchester United man was enough for Vicente del Bosque’s side to secure all three points, leaving them on the brink of qualification. Spain edged closer to qualification for Euro 2016 with a narrow 1-0 win over Macedonia in this Group C encounter.

Juan Mata opened the scoring early on when his attempted cross looped over the head of goalkeeper Tome Pacovski and into the far corner.

Spain had further chances to increase their lead but could not get the all-important second goal, with Macedonia threatening an equaliser late on. The victory puts Spain five points clear of Ukraine in third place with two games remaining.
