Ecuador earthquake death toll rises to 654

The country has declared a state of national mourning following the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake last week. According to the country’s emergency management authority, the tragic number of those declared dead following has gone up from the previous number of 587.

The quake was branded the worst in nearly 70 years in the South American country – leaving more than 20,000 injured and thousands more homeless.
