Car Crashes Outside U.K. Parliament in Suspected Terror Attack

A car crashed into barriers outside the U.K. Houses of Parliament on Tuesday morning in a suspected terrorist attack, injuring several people just yards away from the site of an attack last year.

Police said the driver, in his late 20s, was detained at the scene and later arrested on suspicion of terrorist offenses. The man isn’t cooperating with police and hasn’t been formally identified, police said.

According to CCTV footage obtained by the BBC, the car mounted the pavement, drove against traffic, and crashed into a barrier outside parliament building.

Images circulating on social media showed police arresting the man, dressed in jeans and a black puffer jacket, after officers swarmed on his vehicle and removed him at gunpoint. Parliament was immediately placed on lockdown and surrounding streets in the central London district were cordoned off to the public.
